Some avid customers have now purchased 12 or more paintings. That's a LOT of FOLK ART FOLKS SOME GOOD NEWS ABOUT MY FOLK ART! Georgia Southern University is displaying 7 of my best folk art paintings in their brand new folk art gallery. Quite an honor for this city girl! All Thanks to an avid customer of mine in New York City who has a huge folk art collection. He donated 7 of my paintings, they are now in this gallery. COTTON GIN 16 X 20 One of my latest paintings on EBAY My Story... I was born with a paint brush in my hand, drew lots of pretty pictures. Messed up lots of walls. During this time, my parents used to say that I possessed a goodly amount of talent, SO...they gave me more crayons. I took to art like fish do water and before you know it...I became a SELF TAUGHT FOLK ARTIST!!! A few years ago after growing up in Dallas, Texas and graduating from the University of Texas at Arlington, I moved to the rural town of Hillsboro, Texas and I began to paint...FOLK ART and since then it has become a passion of mine and really a way of life in many ways. Using only my rich imagination...I am also a writer...I paint scenes from bygone days using only acrylic paints and brushes. I'm not old enough or was raised on a farm to do "memory" paintings, but all my kin folks did grow up on farms and my mother told me stories about the black children she played with. My paintings do require memories plus a fanciful imagination. They tell detailed stories from bygone days in the people their customs and habits. They conjure up strong emotions to the viewer. The folk art life is sometimes not easy. It takes much painting...practice...and above all...patience to develop a style of painting that is pleasing to look at and commercial. I consider it a journey that takes me to unknown places just as life is a journey. I get an idea buzzing in my head. I see it on canvas. No need for drawing it-the painting just...comes! I call the style I paint in NAIVE or PRIMITIVE. It has evolved into the style it is today...whatever that is. In my FOLK ART world YOU will find... Crazy Cows...and Strutting Chickens... Lazy Streams and Dusty Country Roads...Falling Down Barns... A crooked Old House...or two... Churches in the Woods...and Old Country Stores...plus Happy Folk Art Folks doin' happy folk art things like...hanging the wash...doin' chores...feedin' chickens...going to church in Sunday best outfits...sewing quilts...lots of them...buying goods down at the General Stores...fishin'...catchin' crawdads and wily ole gators and just being folks!
